we are here, next to each other

no joy inside a youthful smile
just a tasteless candied mess
i taste no pleasure in this
god-forsaken plastic wrapper

a face printed on cellophane
still smiles in the garbage
wrinkles mean no age
just distaste for here, right now

the guards that stare at houses
and the hands that built them too
wither with the grass, clean cut, looks nice, straight lines
and the bliss they say they had

the truth has killed its share
of men who claim they fear no pain

is it pointless?
is it meaningless?
am i missing some magnificent imagery?
am i worth the dust i breathe?

maybe so
perhaps not
for now let us celebrate
with balloons, shouting, and joy
that we are here
next to each other
